5. Examine the hardware and shoulder chain

The hardware can also reveal a lot during the authentication of a Chanel bag. Vintage Chanel bags with gold-colored hardware feature 24-karat gold-plated hardware. This often gives vintage Chanel models a deeper, warmer gold color than modern ones. The 24-karat gold-plated hardware also often remains beautiful, making these bags popular among collectors.
