This gorgeous Chanel vintage matelassé single flap bag in lambskin is a special and rare vintage piece from the early years of Chanel under the direction of Karl Lagerfeld. This model belongs to the first Chanel bags featuring the iconic CC turnlock closure, a design introduced by Karl Lagerfeld after he became Chanel’s creative director in 1983. Since then, the CC logo has become one of the most recognizable symbols in the fashion world.
This authentic Chanel vintage matelassé single flap bag dates from the period between 1983 and 1985, before Chanel began using serial numbers in their handbags. This makes the bag especially desirable among collectors of early vintage Chanel pieces. The bag is crafted from beautiful very dark blue lambskin leather. The color appears almost black, but in certain lighting it reveals a deep dark blue undertone, giving the bag a unique and exclusive look.
The soft Chanel lambskin leather feels beautifully supple and remains in lovely vintage condition. The iconic 24-karat gold-plated hardware still retains its rich gold color and is in very neat condition. There are light signs of wear consistent with the age of the bag and the authentic vintage character of this special Chanel piece, but overall I would describe the bag as being in very good vintage condition.
The chain strap measures approximately 80 cm, allowing the bag to be worn perfectly as a shoulder bag or as a clutch with the chain tucked inside the bag. Unfortunately, this bag cannot be worn crossbody. Vintage bags were originally designed to be worn on the shoulder, as crossbody styling was not common at the time.
The interior is lined with burgundy fabric. The bag features two compartments and a zip pocket. The zipper still works very well. The bag has a light vintage storage scent, which is quite common for authentic vintage designer pieces of this age.
